Kennedy Center: Snatching the Narrative, Showing Community Power

Four drag artists attended Trump's Les Misérables opening night and showed what bringing real joy to America's public spaces looks like.

Last week four drag artists supported by Qommittee (Tara Hoot, Ricky Rosé, Vagenesis, Mari Con Carne) attended the opening night of Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center—the same performance attended by President Trump, who had banned drag shows from the venue. These performers snatched the narrative about that evening, showing what bringing real joy to America's public spaces looks like.

What Happened:

  • Standing ovations from the audience while Trump received mixed boos and cheers

  • Kennedy Center staff repeatedly thanked the performers for being there

  • Proof that drag artists refuse to be erased from public spaces

"You can ban us from your stages, but you can't erase our presence from the venue. We'll always be there regardless."Mari Con Carne
